Aldrich Public Library Scores 97% on Major Charity Evaluator

Updated: Dec 14, 2021

The Aldrich Public Library was featured in the Winter 2021 edition of Explore Central Vermont, a niche publication released by the Barre-Montpelier Times Argus. The library is featured in the article "Plan Out Your Holiday Giving," which guides local donors on how to make informed decisions with their charitable donations this holiday season.

The article highlight's the Aldrich Public Library's 97% thumbs up from Charity Navigator, the world's largest and most-utilized independent nonprofit evaluator. Library Director Loren Polk also spoke about our statistics that show just how much of an asset the library is to the community of Barre. The entire article is a useful reference for evaluating which nonprofits to donate to this holiday season. To access the full article, click here and scroll down to page 27.

The holiday season is officially upon us. Today, Tuesday November 30, is Giving Tuesday, a day designated for "radical generosity" after the bustle of big sales days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. As a non-for-profit, the Aldrich Public Library relies on donations and fundraisers for books, programs and other important functions of the library.

There are many ways to give back to the library. In the upcoming weeks, the library will send out its Annual Appeal letter, which provides an overview of the library's services and statistics from the past year. Donors can then choose to make a donation (by mail or online) to the Aldrich Library. Another way to contribute to the library is through the Adopt An Author program. This program allows library patrons to "adopt" an author. They pay for new books by that author at a discounted price and get to read the book first. This is a great chance to get first dibs on big authors and titles while also helping the library add bestsellers to its collection.

Times are tough and money can be hard to get by for some. Acts of service by our volunteers also greatly help the library. Consider joining The Friends of the Aldrich Public Library, a volunteer group that organizes fundraisers to help sponsor library programs and events such as Senior Day, Full STEAM Ahead, and events for teenagers. Also consider joining the library as a volunteer. Volunteers are key to helping with all of the many day-to-day details involved in a modern public library that make a world of difference.
