Tuesday, June 20, Castle Building: 1:00 - 5:00pm, ages 3 and up.

Build your own castle with ordinary, recycled household materials like cardboard boxes, string, toothpicks, etc. (oatmeal and Pringle containers make great towers). Feel free to bring your own recycled materials from home, but craft materials will be provided at the library. Consider your castle design. What is the main function of your castle? Is it for defense or is it a lovely home? How does that influence your building?

Wednesday, June 21, Catapults: suggested ages 4 and up.
Build your own catapult and make adjustments to hit targets!

Thursday, June 22, Feudalism Game: suggested ages 8 and up.
Learn what it was like living in the Middle Ages through this interactive game.
Monday, June 26, Build A Better World-- "Race To Read" Summer Program Kick-off:
Come celebrate the beginning of the summer reading program with a visit from Thunder Road race car drivers Peyton and Reilly Lamphear! Read all summer long for great prizes, including a chance to be an announcer at Thunder Road and the opportunity to sign the Race to Read race car!

Tuesday, June 27 at 1:00-4:00pm: Robin Hood Movie Party
Come to the Children’s Room to hear stories of Robin Hood and his band, make crafts, and participate in an “archery” contest, followed by a screening of the animated film adaptation (rated G) of Robin Hood’s adventures. Come in costume to participate in the costume contest and win fabulous prizes! Snacks provided.

Wednesday, June 28: Serenity Circles Hula Hooping
Learn to hoop this afternoon with a certified Hula Hoop instructor and performer! Serenity Circles puts a magical spin on life through hoops, wands, and fire – but we’re sticking with just hoops and music today. All experience levels welcome. Ages 4-8, come at 1:00pm for simple hula hooping fun and games! The program for ages 9 and up begins at 2:30pm, including a performance and demo, followed by instruction and choreographed pieces for teens! Discover what you can do with a hoop! Wednesday, July 5: American Civil War Era Bingo
No prior knowledge required, but you're sure to learn something about this fascinating era in American history! Ages 5 and up.
Thursday, July 6: Civil War Era History Day
Games, crafts, and activities based on the American Civil War era!

Tuesday, July 11: Anansi, Weaving a Web of Tales

Come hear tales of African folk hero Anansi the spider, play games, and participate in basic weaving activities. Ages 5 and up.

Wednesday, July 12: Nutrition-- Building Better Bodies & DIY Kaleidoscope Craft

Build your own Kaleidoscope from simple household and crafting materials.

Thursday, July 13: Jazzercise Junior

Build your muscles and stamina, dance to the music, and have fun with Jazzercise, led by the fabulous Prudence!

Tuesday, July 18: Rockin' Ron the Singing Pirate

Ahoy, matey! Back by popular request, musical pirate Rockin’ Ron performs entertaining and educational pirate songs from his albums, including his newest, The Flying Pirate Circus! Ages Pre-K and up.

Wednesday, July 19: Pirate Science, Activities and Games

Make pirate crafts, play buccaneer games, and experiment with the science of buoyancy. Ages 5 and up.

Thursday, July 20: Archaeology Day

Learn how archaeologists build a picture of the past through activities such as reassembling pottery and examining the layout of sites using a metal detector! Ages 5 and up.

Tuesday, Aug. 1 (4:30-7:30pm): Rapunzel Movie Night
Enjoy a team-based tower-building competition, crafts, stories, and a PG-rated, animated film about Rapunzel! Snacks provided. Ages 4 and up.

Wednesday, Aug. 2  (6:00pm): Children’s Writer Kekla Magoon
Author Kekla Magoon visits as part of our Authors at the Aldrich series! Kekla is the award-winning author of the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award nominated series Shadows of Sherwood, as well as many other fiction books for middle grade and young adult readers. She teaches creative writing at the Vermont College of Fine Arts and loves traveling the country to talk about her books. For kids still needing to check off this square on their summer reading bingo cards, this is an author not to be missed! Light refreshments and a signing follow the program.
Thursday, Aug. 3 (1:00pm): Ice Cream Making Competition
A team-based competition with all ingredients provided for a cool afternoon! Prizes for the best ice cream flavors. Ages 4 and up.

Tuesday, Aug. 8 (4:30pm) in the Elk's Club Parking Lot: Race to Read Finale Party!

Kids, if you have met your reading goal for the summer by reading 15 or more books, come meet the Thunder Road drivers Peyton and Reilly Lamphear, sign their race cars, and enjoy ice cream and strawberry shortcake in the library’s Milne Room! Don’t forget to bring your reading logs!
