Authors at the Aldrich

For the first time since 2019, we will be hosting a proper Authors at the Aldrich series! All four authors are Vermont-based and will entertain with more than just books. Next Chapter Bookstore will partner with us to sell books by each author at these events. Central Vermont Television will film the events for further viewing. August 23
Melany Kahn
Melany Kahn is the author of Mason Goes Mushrooming, a children's book about a young boy and his four-legged pal, Buddy, who go on a woodland treasure hunt for edible mushrooms through lush Vermont landscapes. At our author event, expect an exciting evening event of not just a reading of the book, but viewing and identifying mushrooms and sampling sautéed edible mushrooms prepared by Melany.
Melany Kahn started hunting for mushrooms in Vermont in 1968 when her family bought a farm in West Brattleboro. For the last 22 years she has taught children how to forage for wild mushrooms. Recently, Melany presented a talk to children at TEDxBoston on planetary stewardship, "You're never too young to learn or too old to start foraging." Carla Neggers
Carla Neggers is the New York Times bestselling author of more than 75 novels, including her popular Sharpe & Donovan series. Her books have been translated into dozens of languages and sold in over 35 countries. Carla currently resides in Quechee, Vermont, and in addition to writing, Carla is a dedicated runner and has completed the Covered Bridges Half-Marathon in Vermont several times, as well the Dingle Half-Marathon in Ireland. Frequent travelers, especially to Ireland and the Netherlands, Carla and her husband live in northern New England, where they love to garden, read, hike and enjoy good times — and a taoscán of whiskey! — with family and friends. Carla's latest book is Rival's Break.

Michael Metivier
Michael Metivier is a writer, an editor, a musician, and a lexicographer. His work has appeared in Poetry, The Kenyon Review, Prairie Schooner, the Bennington Review, and the African American Review, among other journals. Columba, a quarterly, published his long poem “Glacial, Erratic” as part of a split chapbook in 2022. Metivier lives with his wife and daughters in Windsor, Vermont, and is an editor at Merriam-Webster.
Event attendees can not only expect to hear about Michael's work as poet and editor, but will also enjoy a small musical performance from Michael!

Rick Winston
Rick Winston grew up in Yonkers, New York, and became hooked watching old films on TV at a young age. He went to Columbia College and University of California, Berkeley, where there were many opportunities to catch up on films while putting off writing English Literature papers. He co-founded the Savoy Theater in Montpelier, Vermont in 1981, and was co-owner until he and his wife Andrea Serota sold it in 2009. Winston’s previous book, Red Scare in the Green Mountains (Rootstock, 2018) won the 2019 Richard O. Hathaway Award from the Vermont Historical Society for “Outstanding Contribution to Vermont History.” He currently teaches film history throughout Vermont.
Rick's new book, Save Me a Seat! is the story of how a vibrant film culture took root in unlikely surroundings, and the story of how a boy from the New York City suburbs landed in Vermont and became a preeminent film programmer and historian in the Green Mountain State.
