ANNUAL APPEAL (Fiscal Year 2018)
It's been a big year for us at the library. We have new faces working on our staff and a new look in our basement as renovations progress in our Children's Room and Milne Room. We also wanted to share how Barre has used its library in the last fiscal year (July 1, 2017-June 30, 2018) as we prepare our annual appeals. We are so proud of these numbers and are pleased the library continues to be an indispensable resource for Barre residents. In addition to our staff, volunteers contribute their time and energy to help us reach these numbers.
Check your mailbox for more information about how you can get involved to help the Aldrich Public Library continue to be an invaluable resource that meets the evolving needs of Barre residents. Thank you and enjoy a year in retrospect shown in our graphic below.
How is the library funded?
The library relies on appropriations from Barre City and Barre Town to support roughly half its operating costs each year. Most other Vermont libraries in towns of our size receive 85% of their operating costs from municipal appropriations.
For the rest of our yearly funding, Aldrich relies on the generous support of local clubs, companies, and individuals who contribute in many ways, both financial and in-kind.
A small trust also supplements our budget, however we have been drawing down its principle to make ends meet each year which is unsustainable in the long run. Of the ten large libraries in Vermont serving a population over 10,000, Aldrich has by far the lowest per capita support: just $14.51 per person. Vermont state average for towns our size is $37.50.
Your help is needed and very welcome! Contact the library at 476-7550 for more information about giving.
Monetary gifts are often given in honor of birthdays and anniversaries or to honor the memory of a loved one.
Donated books, both new and used, are accepted throughout the year and are added to our collection or placed in the Friends’ Book Sale.
